Dr. Keefer is currently Associate Professor, Medicine and Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. She is nationally recognized in the area of Psychosocial Gastroenterology, and is a highly sought after speaker internationally to gastroenterologists regarding psychosocial considerations in GI diseases. Dr. Keefer on the Board of Directors of the Rome Foundation, is Chair of the Patient Education Psychosocial Subcommittee at the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and elected council member and Chair of Education for the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society (ANMS). Her main research focus over the past 15 years has been to develop, empirically test and implement effective behavioral self-management tools into the pathway of GI care. She has contributed to over 80 peer reviewed original contributions in publications and authored or co-authored numerous books and book chapters. Dr. Keefer is very involved in mentoring health psychologists who have gone on to direct or work in successful GI Psychology programs within academic medical centers around the country. Dr. Keefer is a Fellow and founder and chair of the Psychogastroenterology section of the Rome Foundation.
