Kathryn Tomasino, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, within the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. She is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in providing behavioral and psychological treatments to patients with a range of gastrointestinal conditions including disorders of gut-brain interaction and inflammatory bowel disease, GERD, gastroparesis and more. She also supports patients before and after bariatric surgery to optimize adjustment and promote sustainable lifestyle change. In her clinical work, Dr. Tomasino utilizes research-supported interventions (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance- and mindfulness-based therapies (ACT, MBSR), hypnotherapy, biofeedback) to help individuals cultivate insight into the brain-gut connection and learn techniques to reduce symptoms, alleviate pain, and improve quality of life. Her research is focused on the evaluation of behavioral interventions for patients with gastrointestinal conditions. Dr. Tomasino is also passionate about clinical training and mentorship. She is involved in training of Northwestern’s gastroenterology and hepatology fellows, and provides supervision to clinical psychology pre-doctoral students as well as post-doctoral fellows training in Psychogastroenterology.
